As the New England Patriots continue to prepare for their divisional round match up with the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, the team made a couple of transactions to bolster the practice squad today.

According to Patriots.com, the team added two first year players, safety Cedric Thompson and wide receiver J.J. Worton, to the practice squad this afternoon. To make room for the two new additions, the team also released rookie receiver DeAndre Carter from the practice squad.

Thompson, who played college football at Minnesota, was drafted in the fifth round this past year by the Miami Dolphins. He was cut prior to the season and spent most of the year on the team's practice squad.

Worton, who the Patriots had tried out previously this year, ended the year on the St. Louis Rams' practice squad, after being signed by the team as a rookie free agent in December.

Neither Thompson or Worton figures to be a factor in this week's match up, at the moment. The Pats are set to get top receiver Julian Edelman and number two receiver Danny Amendola back this week to join third and fourth options Brandon LaFell and Keshawn Martin as weapons in the passing game.

The team also seems to be alright at safety, as starters Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty appear to be back close to full strength, following injuries, and back up Nate Ebner returned to practice today.
