The New England Patriots issued a statement today, regarding the injury to tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The statement was a joint effort put forth by both the team and the Gronkowski family. Here's a look at the complete statement:

"During Sunday night’s game, Rob Gronkowski sustained a bone bruise/sprain of his right knee.  His status will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis and listed accordingly on the practice participation and injury reports.  There is no timetable for his readiness to return, which will be determined in the days or hours prior to the appropriate game. Any timetable reported prior to that final determination would be speculative."

The move comes after what's been a somewhat confusing past couple of days, in terms of understanding the severity of Gronkowski's injury from the team's loss on Sunday night.

Initially, things did not look promising for the 26-year-old tight end, as he appeared to be in a tremendous amount of pain from the hit. After being taken off the field on a cart, Gronk was seen limping from the locker room and the speculation began. What was initially thought to be an ACL or MCL injury that would require serious time to heal, didn't seem to be so bad after all.

It's unlikely Gronk will play in this week's game against Philadelphia, but he could be back in two weeks for another Sunday night showdown, this time in Houston.
