The deal, which comes with a $2.4 million signing bonus for Chung, is a move that makes sense on multiple levels.

Chung, who entered the league with the Pats back in 2009, came back for a second go around with the team in 2014, after a one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013, and has been great since his return.

Working alongside top free safety Devin McCourty, Chung has been able to become a force in the team's secondary, usually taking the opposing team's tight ends out of the game and adding another top tackler into the box against the opposition's run game.

Over his career, the Oregon product has played in 93 games and has made 468 tackles, while tallying eight interceptions .

This deal not only rewards Chung for his solid play since returning to New England but also ensures that he and McCourty, who is under contract through the 2019 season, will be manning the back end of the Patriot secondary for at least the next few season.
