The New England Patriots re-signed veteran linebacker Jonathan Freeny to the active roster, Wednesday.

Freeny, who was cut by the team just prior to the start of the 2017 season, entered the league with the Pats' opponent this week, the Miami Dolphins, as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

The Rutgers product was signed by the Pats back in 2015 and has played 18 of his 65 career games with New England.

As the team battles injuries to linebackers Kyle Van Noy, Trevor Reilly and Marquis Flowers, along with injuries to other front seven personnel, Freeny will bring a familiar face and more importantly a familiarity with the playbook that could help the team's depth during the stretch run of the season.
