The New England Patriots made a few roster transactions today, including adding rookie linebacker Quentin Gause to the practice squad.

To add Gause, the team released fourth year linebacker Rufus Johnson from the practice squad.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Johnson was one of the final cuts made by the team, prior to the finalization of the active roster. Johnson also showed some pass rush and play-making abilities, during the preseason, that would have seemed to warrant keeping him around in case of injury issues on the 53-man roster.

The team also reportedly released guard/center Josh Kline, who was originally reported to be in the trade for defensive back Eric Rowe yesterday. After word spread that Kline never left the area yesterday, the team needed to make a roster move in order to add Rowe. While he has not been taken off the team's active roster, multiple outlets have noted his release.
