The New England Patriots announced, earlier Saturday, that they have activated wide receiver Brandon LaFell to the team's 53-man roster.

The news comes just a day before the team is set to host the New York Jets in an AFC East showdown.

LaFell started the season on the physically unable to perform list after dealing with an off season foot injury. The LSU product returned to practice for the first time this week and participated without issue.

LaFell will fill the roster spot left available after the team released defensive tackle Khyri Thornton earlier this week.

Due to his promotion to the active roster, it appears LaFell will suit up tomorrow against New York. With the receiver back the team will add a bit more depth o a position that has been short all season long. The acquisition of Keshawn Martin, earlier this season, helped add a deep threat that the team had lacked a bit in LaFell's absence. Look for Martin to continue to be active on game day and help the team as he's posted a solid stat line so far. In three games the fourth year pro has made six catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Also as a result of LaFell's return, look for third year wide out Aaron Dobson to fall further down the team's depth chart. Dobson has played in just three games this year, and although he played well in a week two win over the Buffalo Bills, he's been a healthy scratch the last two weeks.

In 16 games played last year, LaFell set career highs in catches, yards and touchdowns. He also played in all three of New England's postseason games, catching two touchdowns including one in the Super Bowl.
