Officials from Buzzards Bay Coalition and Southcoast Health announced a new partnership aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles through outdoor exploration Thursday at The Sawmill in Acushnet.

The initiative, Discover Buzzards Bay, is an online resource that helps local residents find places, events and adventures where they can get exercise and connect with the outdoors across Buzzards Bay.

“We have 115 locations spanning from Little Compton to Falmouth right now on the site and there’s 300 that we know of that we’re going to get up there over the next two years,” said Buzzards Bay Coalition President Mark Rasmussen.

The partnership will also provide collaboration between healthcare and the outdoors, as seen through the monthly "Walk with the Doc."

“They’ll have their health van here, you can get your blood pressure checked and when you do your walk, you can ask questions of the doctor and get advice about wellness,” Rasmussen said. “It’s not just a partnership in name but a partnership on the ground.”

Rasmussen said there are typically full calendars of events across sites each month hosted by local groups.

Discover Buzzards Bay includes information on where to take in a nature walk, ride a bike, paddle along a waterway or catch some fish.
