Parents To Rally To Keep Teaching Positions

A New Bedford woman is organizing a rally for next Monday, urging the School Committee to restore fine arts teachers to next year's School budget. 

The committee must eliminate 250 positions, including 100 teaching slots, in order to balance next year's spending plan. 

Joanne Marques has two children taking part in school bands and other activities.  She wonders why art programs always take a hit.....

Marques says the rally is not "against" anything, but rather an attempt to convince the School Committee to save as many teaching positions as possible. 

The rally is scheduled for 5:30 Monday outside Keith Middle School.  The School Committee meets at 6pm.
