The pilot hurt in a plane crash in Berkley has been identified as the 78-year-old owner of the private airfield.

Authorities say Murray Randall was the only person on board the small craft when it went down at about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday as it was taking off and ended up nose first in the woods along Myricks Airport.

Randall, who lives next door to the grass airfield he has owned for about 25 years, at first refused medical attention but then went to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

A friend tells The Taunton Daily Gazette that Randall is a lifelong pilot with thousands of hours of experience. The friend called Randall an ``excellent'' pilot.
