A New Bedford man is under arrest after police say he attempted to rob a convenience store.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says a man, later identified as Edward Tuffo, entered the 7-11 on Coggeshall Street at 12:15 Friday morning with a knife and demanded money from the clerk.

The owner of the store then grabbed a baseball bat and chased him out of the store.

The owner followed Tuffo to the area of Mitchell Street where he discarded a kitchen knife and some clothing.

Tuffo was later arrested by police then identified by the clerk. Tuffo is being charged with one count of attempted unarmed robbery.
