Over 200 area high school students spent this afternoon packaging 10,000 meals for the hungry during an event at UMass Dartmouth.

It's part of the Leduc Center's Youth Civic Engagement Summit, which featured a workshop for students on using the power of speech to make change and food-packaging to raise awareness about hunger.

The meals were packed by students from New Bedford, Fairhaven, Westport, Wareham, Durfee High and Atlantis Charter in the university's gymnasium at the Tripp Athletic Center.

Created in 2008, the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement was created to encourage community service and service-learning.
