This weekend, people around the country and locally can get rid of their old medications.  Law enforcement are accepting old medications Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  It's free and anonymous.

Locally, New Bedford residents can drop off their medications at the Shawmut Avenue transfer station..In Westport, it will be at the police sub station on the side of Cumberland Farms at 596 State Road and in Wareham, the drop off point is at the police station at 2515 Cranberry Highway.

Authorities recommend removing labels before turning in the medications.  The DEA has collected over 17-hundred tons of medications over the past three-and-a-half years.  The service is free and for a complete list of drop off points, log on to "deadiversion.usdoj.gov"
