Two people have been arrested after they were seen openly drinking alcohol in a New Bedford park.

New Bedford Police spokesman Lt. Amos Melo tells WBSM News police officers warned 38-year-old Tammy DeFreitas of New Bedford and 47-year-old William LaGrant of Brockton after they were seen with an open container of alcohol in Riverside Park around 12:30am Tuesday. Officers saw them drinking a second time and arrested the pair.

During the booking process, police found the couple was in possession of nearly 27 grams of cocaine and over $1,000 in cash.

DeFreitas and LaGrant face charges of trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession within 100 feet of a park, conspiracy to violate drug laws, and violation of open container laws.

They were both arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford District Court.
