The neon lights have flickered off for the last time at the Shawmut Diner, as the business closed down for the last time, Monday.

Phil and Celeste Paleologos have retired from the diner industry, after 33 years of ownership, opting to spend more time with their family.

On the last day, hundreds of locals stopped in to grab one last bite to eat at the diner. Mayor Jon Mitchell presented Phil and Celeste with a resolution form his office, signifying what the diner has meant to New Bedford.

Cumberland Farms has purchased the land on which the diner now sits. Phil Paleologos says the diner will be moved into storage in about a month if it's not sold before then.
