Officials Identify ABC Disposal Worker Killed By Truck

A worker at a New Bedford trash hauling and recycling company has been killed on the job.

A spokesman for the Bristol district attorney's office says 64-year-old Manuel Viera was walking in ABC Disposal's parking lot at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when a large flatbed truck that transports Dumpsters accidentally struck him.

Viera was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m.

New Bedford and state police are investigating and an autopsy is scheduled.

The driver of the truck was a 59-year-old employee of the company from Fall River. His name has not been made public.
