As Americans prepare to honor their war dead this Memorial Day weekend our President is in Hiroshima where he hinted that the use of atomic weapons to defeat the Japanese more than seven decades ago was a "mistake."

While not directly apologizing for the use of atomic bombs to defeat the Japanese in World War ll President Barrack Obama suggested that America was responsible for ushering in an age of "atomic warfare." This despite the fact that atomic or nuclear weapons have not been used in war in all of the years since Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

“Seventy-one years ago, on a bright cloudless morning, death fell from the sky and the world was changed. A flash of light and a wall of fire destroyed a city and demonstrated that mankind possessed the means to destroy itself,”  said Obama.

"Why do we come to this place, to Hiroshima? We come to ponder a terrible force unleashed in a not-so-distant past. We come to mourn the dead, including over 100,000 Japanese men, women and children, thousands of Koreans, a dozen Americans held prisoner. Their souls speak to us. They ask us to look inward, to take stock of who we are and what we might become."

Obama failed in his remarks to mention the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor which lead to America's involvement in the war.  He didn't mention the 100 thousand plus American lives lost in the Pacific theater.  He also neglected to mention that as many as a million Americans may have died if we had invaded Japan from the sea instead.

Obama continued, "We’re not bound by genetic code to repeat the mistakes of the past. We can learn. We can choose. We can tell our children a different story, one that describes a common humanity, one that makes war less likely and cruelty less easily accepted."

President Obama is on quest for a legacy and a foothold in history.  He believes that rewriting history to fit his image of what he perceives to be a failed nation is the way to do that.

Mr. Obama has and continues to show disrespect and distain for this country and the men and women who have sacrificed for it.  His administration has attempted to diminish the great role America and Americans have played throughout history in fighting for freedom and justice.  For that he will be judged and remembered.
