President Barack Obama is meeting with activists to discuss ways they can support his agenda as lawmakers return to their home states for a summer break.

Obama's being joined by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi at a gathering Monday of Organizing for Action, a super political action committee formed from the president's 2012 re-election campaign.

The meeting comes ahead of the upcoming August recess for Congress, when many lawmakers return to their districts.

Democrats are trying to build momentum on issues like immigration reform, the implementation of Obama's health care law and expanded background checks for certain firearm purchases.

Organizing for Action raised more than $8 million between April and June.
