President Barack Obama will hold a White House news conference Friday before jetting off on his August vacation.

The afternoon appearance will likely mark Obama's first comments on his decision to cancel a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He cancelled after Moscow granted asylum to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden.

Obama may also face questions about the terror threat that's led to an extraordinary global travel warning, as well as the political chaos in Egypt.

The president will also look to outline his positions on upcoming budget fights with congressional Republicans. Congress is in the midst of a one-month break, and Obama leaves for a week long vacation Saturday.
