Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is being formally nominated by President Obama to be the next Secretary of State.

The Massachusetts democrat is the longtime chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  Hillary Clinton plans to step down next month.  Kerry’s confirmation is expected to sail through the Senate.
