President Obama is asking Vice President Joe Biden to lead administration efforts to reduce gun violence.

Speaking at the White House, the President said Biden will head-up a task force designed to produce "concrete proposals" in coming weeks.

In the aftermath of the deadly school shooting spree in Newtown, Connecticut, the President said gun violence is an epidemic that has "terrible consequences for our society."  Vice President Biden's background includes a lengthy stint as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  He was involved in crafting a federal ban on assault weapons that expired during the prior Bush administration.  President Obama said the ban on assault weapons should be reinstated, calling them weapons of war. (Metro, Inc.)
