President Barack Obama stumped for U.S. Senate hopeful Edward Markey in Boston, hoping to give him an edge over Republican Gabriel Gomez in the state's Special Election. At a rally in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood, Obama said  he needed Markey in the Senate to support programs for middle class families:

Committed to doing While the president was rallying thousands of supporters of Markey in Boston, republican Gabriel Gomez, a former Navy Seal,  met with about two dozen veterans at the Chelsea Soldiers Home.

Gomez said he's 'closing the gap rapidly'' on Markey and is honored that Obama was worried enough to make the trip.
