North End Crash Sends Two to Hospital

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police have released information on a single-vehicle accident that took place Saturday night.

The crash occurred Saturday, January 27 at around 9:09 p.m. Police say a vehicle was traveling south on Acushnet Avenue, when it veered into the northbound lane and struck a pole in the area of 3436 Acushnet Ave.

The driver was transported by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital, while a rear passenger was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. Another passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

There is no word on the condition of the driver or the passengers.

Police say the accident remains under investigation and have provided no further details.
