North Attleboro Seeks Unpaid Taxes From Hernandez Estate
NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) _ The Massachusetts town where Aaron Hernandez lived is seeking more than $93,000 in unpaid real estate taxes from the late New England Patriots player's estate.
North Attleborough Treasurer Christopher Sweet tells The Sun Chronicle the unpaid taxes date to 2014. Hernandez purchased the home in 2012 for $1.3 million. It is currently on the market for that amount.
The home is in tax title status and a lien must be paid before it can be sold.
Hernandez, who was serving a life sentence for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, hanged himself in prison in April days after his acquittal in a double slaying.
Lloyd's mother has filed a wrongful death suit against Hernandez's estate, and should she win, proceeds from the home's sale could be used to pay her damages.
