New Bedford will be holding municipal elections November 3 and, as of Friday, nomination papers were available for those who wish to run for Mayor, City Council, School Committee or Assessor.

Candidates are required to get 50 signatures before and turn them in by August 18.

However, Maria Tomasia, the Chair of the City's Election Commission, recommends that candidates get more than that.

"Get at least 75 just incase there are any contested signatures," says Tomasia "because once the deadline arrives there's no way you can add on to it or bring in or collect more signatures."

Tomasia says two candidates showed up at 9 a.m. Friday to take out nomination papers.

Maria Giesta took out papers to run for Mayor and Dana Rebeiro took out papers seeking re-election as the City Councilor for Eard 4.
