For the 12th consecutive year New Bedford is the top commercial fishing port in the nation with a valued catch of $369 million. Officials say the high dollar amount is due mostly to the large number of scallops landed in New Bedford. For the 15th straight year Dutch Harbor-Unalaska, Alaska led the nation with the highest volume of seafood landed at 706 million pounds.

The figures were released Wednesday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Accordng to NOAA, the U-S seafood catch reached a 17 year high at 10.1 billion pounds.
