New York is spending billions to prepare for future hurricanes.  The 17-billion-dollar storm response plan unveiled today is focused on protecting coastal communities and mass transit in case of another Superstorm Sandy, or worse.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says he wants to be "storm ready" after nine weather disasters slammed the state in just three years.  The plan sets aside five-billion-dollars for the largest reconstruction of the city's subway system in more than a century.

It also includes putting backup generators in more than a thousand gas stations, creating a backup grid system and building dunes along more than 80 miles of the Long Island coastline.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
