Offshore wind energy is not only cleaner, it's cheaper. According to the National Wildlife Federation's report released Thursday, offshore wind could reduce energy costs by $350 million per year. It can also add thousands of jobs to coastal communities.

Mayor Jon Mitchell says the report is an eye-opener for investors and legislators...

The report also points out the advances that have been made in offshore wind as well as obstacles still to come.

It provides a detailed account of where each coastal state stands in the current chase for harvesting wind power to replace fossil fuel.
