In 2009 there were four murders in the City of Fall River. Since that relatively high number things have improved, and Fall River's Mayor Flanagan gives all the credit to the hard work of the police department. In 2012, the city only had one reported murder.

Members of the Fall River city council also believe that the city is safer than it has been in years. The report also states that the city's police force is rebuilding, adding 215 officers since having to layoff 53 in 2009.
