The new Harbormaster for the Port of New Bedford is a Cape Cod native and graduate of Mass. Maritime Academy who's spent ten years working on the ocean.

David Condon says he's been given a warm welcome on New Bedford's waterfront during his first month on the job.

Condon tells WBSM News, he's happy to be assisting recreational boaters and commercial fishermen. "Being out in the patrol boat and being visible on the docks is something that's been lacking before," said Condon. "People know that now they've got a contact that will get them the answers they're looking for."

The Harbor Development Commission held a meet-and-greet Wednesday on Pier Three, so folks working on the waterfront could meet the new Harbormaster.
