New Harbor Development Director Named

The New Bedford Harbor Development Commission approved the hiring of a new H-D-C Executive Director. The Commission welcomed Jeffrey Stieb as the new director, though his contract isn't final yet. Speaking at a late Thursday Afternoon meeting, Chairman Mayor Jon Mitchell tells Stieb and Assistant Director Ed Anthes-Washburn, matters such as fishing, recreation, and tourism will steer the future of the New Bedford harbor.

Stieb has served as maritime counsel for the past nine years for the Mass. Port Authority. Stieb was suggested to the Commission by a search committee, formed after former H D C Executive Director Kristen Decas took a job in California last year. The board expects to ratify Stieb's contract at a meeting on Sept. 11th.
