A former certified nursing assistant from New Bedford will serve one year behind bars after she pleaded guilty Friday to stealing jewelry from elderly people in a Lakeville nursing home.

According to South Coast Today.com, “Judge Therese Wright sentenced Alisha M. Martin, a 37-year-old New Bedford woman, in Wareham District Court to 2 1/2 years in the Plymouth County House of Correction with one year to serve and the balance suspended for three years.”

Also, Martin was ordered to pay $539 in restitution, and has to submit to regular drug and alcohol screenings and have no contact with any of the victims in the case.

Martin pleaded guilty to two counts of receiving stolen property over $250.

Martin committed the offenses while working as a certified nursing assistant at the Island Terrace Nursing Home, which she has since been fired from her position.

She was charged with stealing jewelry from patients at the Island Terrace Nursing Home.
