NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford woman is arrested on prostitution charges.

New Bedford Police narcotics detectives were investigating street-level drug sales in the North End of the city Thursday afternoon. At about 3:42 p.m., while traveling down Acushnet Avenue, a woman known to the detectives was observed standing on the avenue in between Nye and Deane Streets.

Police say the woman was attempting to flag down vehicles with hand gestures consistent with prostitution.

The woman was approached by the narcotics detectives, and during a conversation, police say she solicited sexual conduct for a fee.

Police arrested the woman, 48-year-old Patricia Regan Patterson-Ammon, and charged with sexual conduct for a fee.
