State representatives were successful in overriding budgetary vetoes made by Governor Charlie Baker.

A number of the overrides included funding for New Bedford-based initiatives.

Representative Antonio Cabral tells WBSM News close to $2 million in budget earmarks was secured by an overwhelming majority of override votes. "And I was always confident that we were going to be able to override those vetoes. Because this is important funding. This is funding for specific organizations, for specific programs. Organizations that have a tremendous involvement and impact in the community," said Cabral.

Among the recipients of the earmarks in the FY 2016 budget include the Dennison Memorial Community Center, New Bedford Festival Theatre, AHA!, the Zeiterion Theatre, and others.

The largest earmark holds $1.2 million for the Gateway Cities English Language Learner Program in New Bedford Public Schools.
