A New Bedford veteran is getting a big break.  Former Army Sgt. Chris Gomes lost his leg serving in Iraq and is now getting a new home from a group called Home for Our Troops with a little help from some New England Patriots players.

According to CBS Boston, eight New England Patriots players (including Super Bowl hero, Malcolm Butler) volunteered to help a true Patriot. Sgt. Chris Gomes being a huge Patriots fan was very excited.

The new home in Freetown is MORTGAGE FREE and very accessible to Chris. The home feature wider doors, roll in showers, and roll under counter tops.

“The other place is just more restricted. I can’t use the wheelchair at all. Stairs, I’ve had my issues of falling down stairs,” says Gomes talking about his old home.

Now that mortgage is free, Chris says he wants to go back to school and finish studying counter-terrorism. Sgt. Gomes will get the keys to his new home in December while hundreds of volunteers work on the finishing touches of his house.
