A 36 year old New Bedford woman is carjacked in the West End.

The woman was coming out of a business at County and Kempton Streets Tuesday night around 6pm when a man approached her car, pulled out a sharp object, ordered her into the car and jumped in the passenger seat and told her to drive.

Several blocks later when the woman pulled over, the suspect took her pocketbook and cellphone while the woman escaped and ran from the scene flagging down a passerby at County and Sycamore Streets.

The highjacked car was found by police 20 minutes after the incident at County and Mill Streets and was towed to the North End station to be processed.

The woman was not harmed in the incident and described the suspect as an hispanic male in his 30's, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds.
