The State Office of Labor and Workforce Development has released the latest local unemployment numbers for September.  Greater New Bedford's unemployment rate dropped by one tenth of a point from August to September and stands at 9 point 8 per cent. It's the second highest in the state to the Lawrence Methuen area with a rate of 10 point 9.

Although, Greater New Bedford's rate dropped almost a full per centage point from last year. The City of New Bedford's rate is 11 point 9 per cent, down from 12 point 5 from a year ago.

The number of unemployed dropped by about 500 workers from a year ago while employment is up by about one thousand people from a year ago in Greater New Bedford.
