New Bedford's incoming school superintendent Pia Durkin's three-year contract has been finalized with a starting salary of $185,000, a significant raise from what past superintendents earned.

She starts July 1 and will be the city's fifth superintendent since 2008 when Mike Longo retired after five years in the position. Under terms of her contract, Durkin will become a full-time New Bedford resident and will not receive any compensation for unused sick days or vacation days.

The School Committee is expected to formally ratify the deal at their next meeting on May 13th.
