The New Bedford man who held police at bay in the far North End for four hours Thrusday night has been arraigned.

30-year-old John Hernandez faces a number of firearms charges, along with assault with intent to murder, and breaking and entering during the daytime.

Assistant District Attorney Robert DiGiantomaso is prosecuting the case, and says Hernandez did want to kill himself.

Police Chief David Provencher stated family issues and recent drug use pushed Hernandez too far.

DiGiantomaso says Hernandez got the .380 semi-automatic handgun from a friend's car in the parking lot of the Southcoast Condominiums.

Hernandez is scheduled to appear in court for a dangerousness hearing on April 5, and is being held without bail in the Bristol County House of Correction.
