New Bedford Police make an arrest in a late-afternoon shooting Wednesday in the South Central District. It left an unidentified 40 year old man with a minor bullet wound to his ankle. The incident happened a  little before 5 p.m. in the vicinity of Russell and Pleasant streets, near Monte Park. According to Capt. Steve Vicente,  the shooting followed an argument  between some females and subsequently a number of males.

Witnesses told police the shooter was escaping up Russell Street where police surrounded 51 Russell street and arrested the alleged shooter, identified as 26 year old Brian Lee Pina and charged him with  assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon along with other charges. Police found a  loaded 38 caliber revolver hidden in the bedroom ceiling of his apartment.

They also arrested his roommate,  19 year old John Burgo of 51 Russell Street for disorderly conduct and witness intimidation. Both men are being arraigned in district court.
