The City of New Bedford will run on essential personnel only tomorrow, as Hurricane Sandy continues to barrage the region with heavy winds and rain.

Mayor Jon Mitchell is also ordering public schools to remain closed Tuesday, as damage and lingering winds could pose threats to school buses and children walking to school.

Mitchell says he doesn't forsee a mandatory evacuation in the South End, but authorities are keeping a close eye on conditions.

Floodgates in the South End on West and East Rodney French Blvds. are closed, and will remain that way until further notice.

The City's shelters at Pilgrim Church on Purchase Street and Keith Middle School remain open to those looking to relocate during the storm.
