School Committee member Tom Clark is stepping down from his position on the committee, citing a new position with the Massachusetts Army National Guard that prevents him from serving in an elected capacity. According to SouthCoastToday.com, Clark submitted his resignation letter to Superintendent Michael Shea and to the City Clerk's office Friday morning giving notice of his intent to resign his position effective Saturday, September 8.

In his letter he said that it's been an honor to serve New Bedford's students and their families. Clark was first elected to the School Committee in 2007 and is now in his second term.  He has recently been appointed to serve as the Massachusetts Army National Guard's Counter-Drug coordinator, a position that requires him to be called to active duty.
