It's a great day for the Irish.

Members of the Friendly sons of St. Patrick joined the Mayor and other local politicians to raise the Irish flag Monday morning in front of City Hall.

This years ceremony included an acknowledment of the recent "twinning" of New Bedford and Youghal, Ireland. Mayor Jon Mitchell read a proclamation rercognizing the day as "Youghal Appreciation Day," and will read greetings from Mayor Sammy Revins of Youghal. 

The Friendly Sons also conducted a special wreath laying ceremony at the Irish monutment at East Rodney French Blvd and Apponagansett Streets.
