Early Monday morning an explosion occurred at a house on New Bedford's West End. The police suspected foul play, and have found their suspect.

At 4am Monday morning a gas leak led to a home explosion on Richmond Street in New Bedford. Police quickly learned that someone had been in the home trying to steal copper piping, and accidentally cut a steel pipe that was delivering natural gas into the house.

The gas leak resulted in the explosion, that has caused significant damage to the home, but no one was injured.

New Bedford police have arrested a suspect, 46 year-old Kevin Liveramento of Highland St. in New Bedford. Police say they arrested him at 10am on Monday, and have charged him with breaking and entering, larceny and malicious destruction of property. He looked to have been injured, and was taken to St. Lukes Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, and was later transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital.
