The New Bedford Council on Aging is hoping to improve the quality of life for senior citizens with the opening of its Hillman Street Support Center.  The grand opening was held on Thursday. 

The Center, at 181 Hillman St., will offer a serious of support groups to help seniors cope with the loss of loved ones, wellness issues, and more.  Education programs will also be offered there in computer technology and the use of smart-phones and ipads. 

Executive Director Deborah Lee tells WBSM News, she surveyed seniors in New Bedford to find out what services they wanted. 

Mayor Jon Mitchell joined Council on Aging staffers Thursday in cutting a ribbon for the new center. 

The Mayor said many seniors in New Bedford are looking for ways to enhance their quality of life, and the Support Center will help do that
