New Bedford Murder Suspect Held Without Bail
A 28 year old New Bedford man appeared in District Court Monday to answer a murder charge. Luis Torres was returned to Bristol County last week from New Hampshire, where he was picked up as a fugitive from justice. He's charged in the Sept. 18 stabbing of 25 year old Robert Sylvia of New Bedford. Police say Sylvia was stabbed in the chest during a fight in a Tinkham St. apartment.
He died October 2 at Rhode Island Hospital. At his arraignment, Torres was ordered held without bail. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and the case was continued to Nov. 20 for a probable cause hearing.
