New Bedford Man Uses Beard to Raise Money for Mercy Meals and More

A local man has raised nearly $3,000 in just three weeks for Mercy Meals and More.

After seeing a video of Reverend Russ Chamberlain on one of his daily food pick-ups, David Santos decided to help out by putting his beard on the chopping block, literally. Santos set up two fundraising accounts, one labeled "shave it", the other labeled "grow it", with participants contributing to whichever action they thought David should take.

Santos says he didn't expect the amount of attention the fundraiser received.

The fundraiser raised $2,760 in total.

Santos was able to keep his beard by a margin of $80. A close shave, at that.
