NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man with an open case involving four drug charges has been arrested.

Members of the New Bedford Police Department Gang Unit on Saturday observed Xavier Barros, 23, of 525 North Street, Apt. 1, New Bedford, driving a vehicle in the 100-block of Ashley Boulevard on a suspended license. Barros, who is known to police, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license.

During a search of Barros, police found nearly seven grams of Fentanyl and almost $500 in cash in his possession. Barros faces additional charges of possession of Fentanyl with intent to distribute and four outstanding warrants.

The warrant charges stem from an open case out of Falmouth District Court, where Barros is facing charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of Fentanyl, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and violation of controlled substance act. Police say Barros failed to show up in court to face those charges.

Barros' bail in his Falmouth case was revoked during his arraignment on Monday. He has been ordered held without bail.
