UPDATE (1:34 p.m.): The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has identified the victim as 22-year-old Emmanuel Fuentes. The DA's office says Fuentes is believed to be homeless, but resides in New Bedford.

NEW BEDFORD - A New Bedford man is dead and an investigation into his apparent murder is underway.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says before 11 P.M. Sunday night, New Bedford Police received a 911 call regarding a man being stabbed outside of 357 Ashley Boulevard. First responders arrived on the scene and found the 22-year-old male victim bleeding profusely. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where he died from his injuries around 11:40 P.M.

The victim's identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The D.A.'s Office says the investigation is extremely active. No further information is being released at this time.

The homicide is New Bedford's first murder in 2017. Last year, three people were murdered in the city.
