New Bedford Man Faces Robbery and Drug Charges

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 20-block of South Water Street.

When police arrived and began investigating, they were told that one of the males fighting had approached the other male earlier, displayed a knife and took money. The victim chased him and the two were fighting when police arrived. No injuries were reported.

Derren Jene Almeida, 29, of Campbell St., New Bedford, was charged with armed robbery, disturbing the peace while armed and possession of cocaine.

The arrest was made at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday.
