NEW BEDFORD — The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that the death of a New Bedford man was likely caused by a heroin overdose.

According to the report, the man was found early Wednesday next to his bed by his girlfriend in an apartment on Swift Street in New Bedford. He was unresponsive.

The DA's office says that the man was rushed to the hospital, where fresh needle marks were found in his arm. They added that the victim had a long history of heroin abuse and had overdosed in the past.
